Songs of the summer in mainstream are usually upbeat dance tracks that seems to be playing on at least one radio station at all times. This year’s seems to be Justin Timberlake’s cheesy Can’t Stop the Music. Pass. Instead, I tend to opt for for laid back grooves that almost transport me to warm weather and the beach (even if it’s feeling like winter in San Francisco). Needn’t Speak by Rudimental featuring British songstress Lianne La Havas does just that.
It’s described as a bossa nova track (which I love) and it fits that categorization. Lianne’s voice is dream-like, soulful, buttery. I could’ve done without the drum’n’bass break in the middle, but then that is Rudimental’s sound, so I can’t complain too much. Instead I’ll go back to my daydreams of laying by the water.
