These past few weeks it’s been hard to listen to anything but Prince’s music. It’s been a source of healing to immerse myself in the beautiful work he left us with. To be inspired by all that he gave. It’s also been a revelation to visit, or revisit in this case, the work that he loved and was inspired by. One of those songs that we know Prince loved (covered and performed with Chaka who worked with him and NPG Records) is one I grew up listening to – Rufus and Chaka Khan’s Sweet Thing.
Sweet Thing is full of nostalgia for me. Lazy hot summer days in the backyard with my parents, aunts and uncle barbecuing, and me running around with my cousins. I just can’t help but smile when I hear it. It’s so infectious I find myself playing it on a loop. Soul at it’s finest and Prince approved.
